He sat down, putting a plate before Roxanne, explaining the food as he went, "I do not know if you like pie - but even if you don't, this is very good. It is chocolate chip. And I was unsure of a drink but I brought you tea - is that acceptable?"

He held out a mug for her.

Her reply was quick and almost script like, and she didn't quite make eye contact. She had left out some details, and she hoped Radek couldn't pick up on it.
