Rayne entered her room from the hallway gesturing with her hands while talking to Roxanne. "So here's my problem, I'm...nice room" she said suddenly, distracted by the comfortable accomodations.

Roxanne lookes at Rayne and laughed a bit. "Yeah, I know, aren't they nice? They are even better when you get your own stuff inside."

"I don't have much." Rayne looked the room over. "I used to love decorating. I redid my room at home when I was seventeen. Made curtains and a matching bedspread from second hand blue jeans. It was one of my many, many, many dream careers." She laughed at herself. "I always wanted to do everything."

"Well, you can do anything, but you can't do everything. It would be too overwhelming. So, what was it you wanted to aske me?" Roxanne questioned the younger woman.

"Well I think it's essentially a behavioral question." Rayne explained. "I've taken into account my usual behavior upon meeting potential co-workers, my personality and my necessary attempts to make myself at ease as quickly as possible with people I will have to relate to occupationally. And I still keeping coming the the distinct conclusion that I was flirting with Colonel Sheppard. It's not exactly unusual for me under the circumstances, and I don't take it seriously or anything. But considering the fact that I had been on Atlantis for five minutes and he was the third person and only the second man I met, you don't think it's a little...ridiculous do you?"

Roxanne was rather surprised by Rayne's question. "Harmless flirting in and of itself isn't a big deal. But if it's something you find yourself doing on a regular basis, then it could be you're a bit insecure with just being you around men."
Roxanne paused and waited for Rayne to continue. When she didn't she spoke again. "Tell me why you think you do it, and be honest. Because I think it's more than trying to be comfortable around new people, cause you don't do it with the women."
Roxanne joked and gave her a smile, trying to lighten the moment.

Rayne grinned. "I sound like a teenager don't I?" She continued without waiting for an answer. "Honestly I have lots of approaches. I've worked with a variety of people, you learn to tell by first impressions how to talk to them. Even with women there's the question of whether you get down to business, or maybe trade complaints about men. Once or twice I've actually had conversations with men complaining about women. I think it's my favorite thing about my job actually. Heart-to-heart conversations with total strangers, careless pointless flirting with men I don't even know. It makes me feel...in my element."

"But if you have to do that to feel in your element as you say, are you sure your in the right element?" The doctor asked. "I'm not questioning your abilities, or why your here, just saying that you should make sure this is really where you want to be. If it is right, you should automatically be comfortable wherever it is you are. And if it bothers you so much maybe you should work on it. I really don't see the harm in it though. Unless of course you get into trouble or makes someone uncomfortable. Just make sure you're being the real Rayne."

"I don't feel that I've lost myself." Rayne considered. "I mean we all have sides of ourselves we perfer to show strangers and I've missed some things lately like my writing. I don't think I've written regularly for probably four years. But I like my job. I know I took a magazine quiz and came out dangerously close to 'Dependant on the Praise of Others For Fullfillment' But if I was really that needy I wouldn't have a job that involved strange countries and people who are pre-disposed to dislike me. I like the challenge." She said, excitement creeping into her voice. "I like working with people and finding solutions to problems you know? I think what's really bothering me are the assumptions I make without thinking. I spent half of high-school laughing at the girls who assumed every good looking guy is single."

"You know what they say about assumptions...making them can put you and the other person in an awkward situation. You think they are one way and they turn around and you find out they are something else entirely. That can be both good and bad. If you make an assumption, you have an expectation, and if you expect one thing and get another, it leaves you disappointed sometimes. Not a good feeling to have with people you work with, especially when your life may depend on them someday." Roxanne said to her. She seemed like a great lady, and despite the advice giving, she had a feeling she and Rayne would become good friends.

"You're right of course" Rayne agreed. "Especcially considering the decreased turnover rate in top secret projects. I might actually end up staying here for more than two months. Which could be an interesting opportunity...and probably has me a little spooked. Because it's not like I'm worried about Sheppard or anything, he seems like the kind of guy who takes flirting at face value. And I know that's another assumption but I'm pretty sure about that one." she added with a slightly mischievious look.

Roxanne looked at her and gave a smirk. She leaned in closer and whispered. "Well, off the record...I've read his file, and let's just say that's one assumption you made correctly."

"So, seeing as we've known each other..." Rayne glanced at her watch. "several minutes already what do you say we get out of here and take a look around the city while making occasional comments about 'men in general'." she suggested.

The women were exiting Rayne's quarters when they heard some commotion in the gate area. "Wonder what that's about?" Roxanne asked, not really directing the question to Rayne. She quickly walked to the upper level railing and looked over to see a very short figure come through, followed by Ronan Dex, who seemed to be irate about something. Roxanne could see a plethera of emotions coming from both of the team members, and thought she might be able to help.
"Rayne, I think they are going to need my help. Something definately isn't right with them. I'll catch up to you later." The doctor made her way down towards the infirmary, allbeit the long route as she didn't quite know the layout yet.

{out to infirmary}
