Amy nodded and took off her shoes before settling back onto the bed. She didn't bother going under the covers, but just lay there staring up at the ceiling, and thinking.

"Where are you, genius?" John muttered to himself, loping towards the infirmary. He'd checked Amy's room, the mess hall, everywhere he could think so far. Now he was beginning to get worried.
Upon entering the infirmary, he spoke loudly to the doctor to get his attention. "Hey, Beckett. Have you seen Amy?"

Carson looked up from his clipboard and nodded, "Aye, she's layin' down. Bed three."

Alarmed, John looked over at the bed that Beckett had indicated. The curtains were drawn around it. "What's wrong with her?"

Carson shrugged softly, "Nothin' really. She's been depressed. An' you failed to tell her of the new arrivals."

John sighed and glared at the doctor. "I forgot. But why doesn't she tell me these things?" Frustrated, he started towards the bed, then changed his mind and stopped where he was, pressing his hands against his face for a moment.

"John raisin' children ain't easy. Maybe you should talk to Kate, she raised her younger brother." Carson offered.

"I may not know much about kids, but I do know that there's a significant difference between boys and girls," said John scathingly, finding a chair and lowering himself into it. "I don't think that would help much."

"Aye, but you won't know until ye try." Carson said before he walked back towards his office.

John opened and closed his mouth a few times, trying to think of a comeback, but Carson was already gone. Defeated, he rose from the chair and approached Amy's bed, pulling back the curtain a little. "Amy? You all right?" he asked quietly.

Amy was sitting with her legs dangling off the side of the bed, scowling at the floor. "Do I look all right?" she demanded of her brother, without looking at him. After a moment, she added, "And Dr. Beckett doesn't know everything. If you want to know 'what's wrong with me,' you should ask me."

John walked over to the bed and sat beside her, bending slightly to look into her face, and slipping his hand into hers. "All right, I'll ask you then. What's wrong with you?"

Amy scowled up at him for a moment, then sighed, giving up. "Nothing really," she replied, twisting her fingers around her brother's. "I just feel... I don't know. Like a teenager. I hate it." She stared up earnestly into his eyes. "I can be more mature, I know I can... but Dr. McKay makes me feel like I'm a little girl. I don't think he does it on purpose, but he's jealous. At least it seems like it to me." Biting her lip, she added softly, "I almost wish he was the child prodigy, instead of me."

John squeezed her hand. "Don't worry about it," he said bracingly. "If he starts getting on your nerves, you just have to get right back on his nerves. Or you could call me, and I could do it for you," he added as an afterthought. "Whatever works for you." He released her hand and rose from the bed. "Remember, I'm here when you need me." Giving her a last smile, he went back out into the main part of the infirmary.

Amy brought her feet back up onto the bed and stretched out with her head on the pillow, before closing her eyes to doze.
